Who is No Face in Spirited Away

Looking back to the year 2001, Studio Ghibli released the film “Spirited Away,” which achieved remarkable box office success worldwide and became one of the best works in many people’s hearts. However, for over 20 years, discussions about the interpretation of “Spirited Away” have been a topic among audiences, especially those eager to unravel the symbolism beneath Hayao Miyazaki’s pen. In particular, there hasn’t been much official explanation about the character “No-Face.” Now, finally, a clearer and more accurate answer has emerged.

Recently, on the Japanese TV show “Friday Load SHOW”, they broadcasted “Spirited Away,” triggering memories for many Japanese viewers and sparking curiosity among netizens about the identity of “No-Face.”

In response, the TV show shared director Hayao Miyazaki’s explanation on social media: “In our daily lives, we often encounter ‘No-Face’ individuals who cannot find the value of their own existence.”
