Today I want to talk about Sadio Mane, a world-famous footballer from Senegal, West Africa. He plays for Liverpool and earns more than £354,000 a week. But he is not your typical celebrity who flaunts his wealth and luxury. He is humble, generous and down-to-earth.
You might have seen some pictures of him using a broken mobile phone. Yes, you heard that right. A broken phone. He doesn’t care about having the latest gadgets or the most expensive cars. He is happy with what he has and he doesn’t need more.
In an interview, he explained why he doesn’t buy a new phone. He said: “I’ll have it fixed. Why do I need a new one? I could buy a thousand, 10 Ferraris, 2 jet planes, diamond watches, I can buy, but why do I need all this? I saw poverty in my life that I couldn’t learn in school, so I built schools for people who don’t have money to study, I didn’t have shoes, I played without shoes, I didn’t have good clothes, I didn’t have food. I have so much today that I want to share it with my people instead of showing off. I want to share everything I have with my poor compatriots.”
Wow, isn’t that amazing? He is not only a great footballer but also a great human being. He has donated millions of pounds to build schools, hospitals and mosques in his hometown of Bambali. He has also helped fund the construction of a stadium in Senegal and supported the national team during the Africa Cup of Nations. He is a role model for many young people who aspire to follow his footsteps.
